I was sad when they knocked it down and managed to retrieve just one of the beautiful wall tiles we used to have to scrub down at the end of the day which retained something of the smells of the cheese and bacon counters for years after. Currently working on some paintings based on my days in Derby (50's,60's and 70's)and it really set me going seeing old pics of cockpit hill..Dave Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10379546243396543702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4576959142506128840.post-7638933666423941592012-08-22T03:10:10.344+01:002012-08-22T03:10:10.344+01:00Thanks for the read - delightful and evocative. I'd spend hours in there just transfixed by the displays. When I got older and had an interest in electronics then the mecca would be R.F. Potts on Babbington Lane.

I also remember queuing for ages in the snow and the dark outside Sainsburys in the Cornmarket to buy our one chicken of the year for Christmas dinner. Oh happy days! They has this stand in the window with all the models on in numerical order, so I just had to go in and say what number I wanted. Sometimes for a treat I used to get a bigger Matchbox, Corgi or Dinky vehicle. Applebee's are still in Beeston, but moved onto Wollaton Road a couple of years ago.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10349828855153546542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4576959142506128840.post-59066588621786507622010-10-17T21:41:44.484+01:002010-10-17T21:41:44.484+01:00A lovely read .....A lovely read .....Marian Barkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03927524859463513961noreply@blogger.com
