Cheering myself up with Nigel Slater's Toast

Since having my finger re-set at the fractures clinic on Monday (local anthesthetic and a loud crack!) I have been cheering myself up by reading Nigel Slater's book Toast. He writes in a similar style to me and is from my generation and his mum died when he was a young boy just like my mother did. And he is passionate about all things food. The book is in turns very funny and most touching and is one of those that you can't put down and don't want to finish.

I made a spag bol last night and tried some of the Jamie Oliver spaghetti that was on offer at my local Co-op store for £1. It was ok ...

This morning I cancelled my facebook account as I am finding it too intrusive.Tomorrow I am back at work and steering clear of cooked meat slicers for a while! See previous blog post for more detail on the accident.

Sorry to hear your poorly finger is still poorly.

I know what you mean about Facebook. I had an account for a while but felt I was being hounded by people I didn't really want to talk to and spending a lot of time reading about the daft things people were doing. You don't need facebook to get in touch with real friends - email is good and better still, invite them round for a cup of tea and a natter.

You've still got 4 fingers and a thumb; don't let the meat slicer win Round 2!

Jean: thanks Jean. Your notions about the nature of Facebook are correct.A good proportion of childish and irritating people. A nice cup of tea and a good natter sounds great to me.

John: Very good comment. Made me laugh a lot. Ding Ding rounda two!!! And in the left hand cooorna, Foodie Phil, and warming up in the right hand coorna The Slicer! Ding ding! Oooh and he's on the ropes and could have broken a finga!

Hi hun - hope you haven't bought Toast, can't you remember me telling you I had it and that I would lend it to your next time we meet? I'm beginning to think the same of Facebook as well as other internet sites.

Facebook is useful for keeping in touch with my relations abroad and friends that can hardly pop round for a cuppa. I certainly don't spend as much time on it as I used to.
Hope they put you on light duties for a while. Bread and cakes perhaps!
