Let them have cake...

I tell you now that I am not a massive cake eater but on occasion I will get a real craving for a pastry or cake and anything tasting remotely or even intensely of lemons will fit the bill. As Julie Andrews once sang "Here are a few of my favourite things..." Whiskers on kittens and warm woolen mittens be damned! Gimme Tarte Citron!

Almond croissant
my Madeleine cakes with lemon rind
Marzipan  and dark chocolate cakes from Ikea
Buttery croissants
pain au chocolat

lemon meringue

What hits the spot with you?

Lemon meringue pie, every time. I love the stuff, but I'm quite fussy about it since I learned how to make it properly, and it's now basically my signature dish with the family.

I'll plump (the operative word with the size of my belly) for an egg custard or an elephant's foot.

I could eat all of them right now. Seriously, although I make a lot of cakes, I don't actually eat cake very often. But my real weakness is for anything with chocolate and nuts in. Gooey chocolate & hazlenut brownies.....served with a dollop of clotted cream.

Hi Phil

I'n not a cake man myself - much prefer savouries. However, I am very partial to a slice of Lemon Merengue.

Anything lemony certainly hits the spot - though your madelines do take some beating!!!

Rhubarb crumble, which has become quite popular and fashionable in France, but pronounced "croomble".
