hot in the kitchen?

I had a day off work yesterday and felt in the mood to cook. It was a hot day so to make it even hotter I fired up the oven and baked some cakes as a nice welcome home present from my five weeks absent neighbour, Jo. She loved them. I also de-stoned some cherries and made a cherry sauce to go with some vanilla ice-cream.
Me and my lovely neighbour.

Later on I went to the shops and got myself some ginger and garlic, spring onions, carrot and a rump steak. From the garden I picked some raddichio salad leaves to go with the grated carrot to form a simple and colourful salad. A few beers helped the day unfold in a summery way.

I cooked a few noodles to go with the stir fry and salad and my lips were hot from the chillis for the entire evening. The food was delicious.

Here are a few pictures from my lovely day off work

Building muscles through washing up

Despite accidently cutting my thumb on a mixing bowl whisk (ouch) and working long hours of late I appear to be building manly muscles through my workday activities of washing up and cleaning the kitchen at my place of employ. The 'slight' beer gut may be the next much needed bodily improvement. By this time next year I could be an older but wiser version of Adonis!! Yeah well, think Patrick Stewart or a hunky version of John Malkovich of the bubbly washing up world. lol.

I'm also finding that I have a lot more energy than I ever imagined and sleep extremely well at night. Once upon of time a mine a friend of mine said that he had heard of an old Confusian saying something along the lines of: 'If a man can do a daily job he is passionate about he will never have to work another day in his life.' I think I am close to that theory.

Busy busy busy.

Well folks, I am working for Café Coco Tang now and a week has gone by so quickly. It would be un-professional of me to start doing a blow by blow account of life in a busy café kitchen each day so excuse me if just say that I am thoroughly enjoying working for this company and have been working hard helping to keep the kitchen operational in my position of kitchen porter. It is hard work and long hours but very fulfilling and I am learning a lot about the daily workings of a professional kitchen directly and vicariously.

It is great to be off the dole and working in an environment that I always knew would be good for me and I feel I am making some nice new friends. My theatrical life has had to be put on a back burner whilst I settle in - c'est la vie. I will be continuing my life as a food and travel writer when time allows.

If you happen to be in Nottingham do pop in to Café Coco Tang - the very essence of chic at the end of Bridlesmith Gate. The cupcakes are very yummy and you may even be tempted to stay for a light lunch. I can recommend the steak baguettes and various Panini and there are lots of other interesting food and drink choices to peruse as you enjoy Nottingham café life at it's best.
