Christmas thoughts of performing in Germany

"Christmas already!?" you cry! Well sort of. I am currently getting very excited about my plans to perform my one man show of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' in the German city of Karlsruhe this coming December.

The Jakobus theatre have accepted my proposal to perform there for two nights and I have booked my flight. No turning back now. Cripes!

The show is a rehearsed reading that I have performed three times before and lasts about one hour and forty-five minutes and this time I am planning to introduce little bits of German into the text. Being in Germany will be great fun and very atmospheric with a proper authentic German market I imagine. And lots of scrummy German food and wine/beer to sample. Prima!

The image to the below is from a previous performance at the Lace Market Theatre.

I have a fair few friends over there who I know through the twinning events that the Lace Market Theatre does with two amateur theatres in Karlsruhe so it will be good to see them again. Today I designed my poster which will soon be on the Jakobus theatre website.

And I was hoping to avoid hearing anything about Christmas until at least mid-November. Seriously, it sounds great fun, & as you say, being at a real German Market will be a marvellous food & drink experience. Just the thought makes me feel hungry. I like the post too.

I love your poster. Very atmospheric and uber stylish. Break a leg and all that. I'm sure it will be a huge success!

That sounds really exciting Phil - if not a little daunting! I suspect that you enjoy the thrill of the limelight - just a little.

I'm sure the market(s) will be well worth a visit, so you'll have to save up a little in order to have a little Christmas indulgence.

I like the poster too - a little dark. It has an air of Edgar Allan Poe about it. Well to me anyway.

I shall send you my early best wishes.

Great poster - we'll look forward to the tales of how it goes.

I know that you can't beat the atmosphere created by a live performance - however, have you thought about recording the performance.

I would probably buy it.

Jean: Really looking forward to seeing the German Christmas markets.

Karen:Thanks Karen. i think it will be great fun too. Nearly four hours of total concentration type fun over the two days.

Dom: Cheers Dom. Enjoyed creating it in a cupboard with a flashlight, camera and a steady hand.

Peter: I do enjoy performing and telling a story even though it can be daunting. I see what you mean by the Edgar Allan Poe-ness of the poster. :0)

PS: I'll see what I can do about getting you a recording my friend.

QO: Thanks, I was very pleased with the end result. Word Art was used to do the writing and I turned the original colour image into sepia in a simple photography editing package and darkened it to the degree I wanted. Then I opened up the image in Paint and added the text, reversing the colours to blend with the picture and finally created the light in the eyes with two pin pricks of white. Voila!

Hope it goes well. A recording of it would be fun to listen too. Very eerie poster. Hope it doesn't scare anyone off!

Cheers!

P.s.:...when do you arrive??

Hi Thorsten, welcome to my site. I will be arriving late Monday night and rehearsing sometime Tuesday for the performance Tuesday night. I think a school wants me to do a workshop with them possibly on Wednesday and I perform again Wednesday evening.
