Who are your favourite cooks?

I like Rick Stein for his passions about fish and for promoting British Food heroes; Hugh Fearnley -Whittingstall for his his honesty about the origins of food and for championing organic produce; The two Hairy Bikers for making cooking fun; Nigella for making cookery sexy.

Who are your favourite cooks and why?

Hmmmmm ... so many answers here but here goes with my selection.

For fish, Rick Stein.
While not really a fan as such, Gary Rhodes produced a brilliant book 'New British Classics' a while back.
The River Cottage series was excellent.
Two Fat Ladies book was good but I was never tempted to try the recipe (or receipt) for Penis Stew.
Nigella, just to look at in the kitchen, bugger the recipes. She is dreamy.

I first took an interest in cooking from watching 'The Galloping Gourmet' Graham Kerr and Fanny Craddock with poor old downtrodden Johnny.
Robert Carrier was the first chef that inspired me to buy a book on the subject, which I still have somewhere.

I find Gordon ******* Ramsey ******* amusing on his *******programmes.
Jamie Oliver had quite an interesting programme on tonight and I love "Come Dine with Me". Excellent comedy.

I buy Nigella books and use them regularly, they're a good read too, but I can hardly bear to watch her gurning to the camera and her smug friends and children.

I'm a fan of Rachel Allen, she has a calm, orderly delivery and always makes me want to cook what she's just made.

Gordon ******* Ramsey can just go and **** himself, I really can't stand him.

I'm with you on Ramsey. I abhor the man. He always seems so stuck up his own butt.

Not too keen on Two Fat Ladies , and call me fussy but, their long nails always looked os grubby.

A few male chefs eem to think it's 'cool and macho' to swear constantly. I went to the Good Food Show last year and watched James Martin doing a presentation and every second word was a swear word. There were loads of children in the audience too.

Haven't heard of Rachel Allen. I will have to check her out NotWaving.

I love Bill Granger's easy style. I have all but one of his cookery books and they continually inspire me to get in the kitchen. His recipes are pretty failsafe and he never uses too many ingredients. It makes me want to live in Oz though, where fish and quality fruit and veg is abundant!

I think Rachel Allen is the Irish lady. I have seen her a few times on tv and she does make some nice homely recipes. My sorta girl.

Lol. I agree about the Two Fat Ladies, Phil. Reckon you'd end up with one of their greasy hairs in your pastie too

And your grannys never cooked this way? Oh come on! Hehe.
My gran was ace at keeping a lit cigarette in her lips all the time she would cook, iron or wash the pots. The ash was never flicked and just bent over more and more as the ciggie went down. I never saw her lose the ash. What a star!
Have a good weekend people. I am off to make some pastry with my dirty fingernails. Hehe.
