This is our last weekend together dear old friend. We have wept together over spilt milk, we've cooked up a storm, created many a stew, burnt a few curries and the occasional cake. You have been my comfort and my joy and life with you has been a gas. Eleven years! Who'd have thought it!? I will always recall how you gleamed and smiled whenever I finally got round to cleaning out your oven. You never once complained when I turned up the heat, drank too much wine or splattered hot food on you. But life for an old cooker doesn't last forever. I wouldn't want you to suffer and well ... how can I put this?
Mr Indesit IS50GW will taking be your role on from Monday next. There I've said it. Good luck in all you do. Adieu, my Leisure 50 friend. Adieu. Sob. Love you!

I know how you feel. It's nice to have a shiny new cooker but getting to know it can be fraught with frustration......good luck !!
I love my electric oven & gas hob (It has to be a gas hob) but really miss the eye level grill of the old days.And there is nowhere to warm plates easily on a built in cooker.

Your picture brought a tear to my eye as I really miss my eye level grill, The joys of actually being able to see my cheese on toast grilling to perfection without getting upon my hands and knees is something I remember fondly from my old cooker.
Jean: I keep welling up and when it is gone I just know I'll keep looking in the place it used to be and expect it to be there! Gulp.

Hi Dean: good to hear from you again. Oh dear I believe the new one has no upper eye level grill. I say 'believe' because my landlady has ordered the cooker not me. Hands and knees it might well be then. :0(
You've worn the old girl out then with all your cooking skills. Now she's being tossed aside to make room for a younger, fresher model.
I wonder what your first meal will be together. Something French perhaps, but not too heavy on the garlic. Or start her off easy with beans on toast.
Sad times indeed. I hope you enjoy the replacement. i have fond memories of our first cooker, a Moffat electric, with ceramic hob (very unusual for 1979) & eye-level grill with rotisserie, which was great fun. It also had a very useful warmer drawer at the bottom. I only got that oven as it was similar to one my Mum had. I'm now on my 3rd electric oven & hope it has a very long life. I cannot get along with gas ovens at all, though having used one on holiday I admit the hob gets hotter faster than electric ones.
